Andrew is one of six artists selected for the Art Connections 'Inspired by Heritage' Residency programme, supported by the Esmee Fairnbarn Foundation.
Andrew will be working in and around the village of Rosedale Abbey on the North York Moors throughout 2009, exploring the dale and moors, observing and recording the effects of the changing seasons on this beautiful landscape.
Rosedale has a rich history as a centre of Iron Ore Mining in the 19th Century and this Industry has left its mark upon the landscape, with the remains of kilns and railway terraces high on the moor. Andrew will be producing large scale documentary drawings of these remains.
The Inspired by Heritage programme forms part of an initiative to support the development of new work by North Yorkshire artists and makers and to build new partnerships between arts and heritage organisations. The programme has been developed as part of the Art Connections project and is supported by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, Harrogate Borough Council and Chrysalis Arts Development.
Inspired by Heritage is a programme of six residencies for contemporary artists and makers who are based in North Yorkshire. Each residency is designed to offer the artist or maker the opportunity to develop and create at least one piece of new work inspired by a specific collection or heritage site.
This promises to be an exciting programme of residencies.
